Susmita – you have been wronged by so many, and the entire country weeps for you. we also weep for all the other humans who have been wronged and taken advantage of. the unfolding of Susmita’s story has brought out rage, anger, confusion, frustration, courage, and bravery for so many of us. many of us who too are survivors. everything about the unfolding of Susmita’s truth is so tender and requires us to have strength, requires us to be in solidarity, and the zeal to fight, while also taking care of ourselves and those who are currently hurting, for those who continue to be in similar unsafe situations and are unable to get out. hold your sisters tight, hug them for an extra minute today and for the days to come, for who knows what they are currently going through. men, do better. men, seek consent. men, stop raping. men, stop abusing. men, stop beating women. men, speak up- not about Malvika Subba but rage about the rapist Manoj Pandey. men, do fucking better, be better.

I hope we learn from Susmita to speak our truth, our power, and we learn from her to fight. she has taught us what it means to be a warrior. she has reminded us what a patriarchal society we live in. she has reminded us what it means to consent. she has reminded us that decisions we make as a bystander can change someone’s life. she has taught us the value of having an open dialogue with our parents, she emphasized on this. she has shown us what it means to be vulnerable. she taught us to speak our raw truth. she has also taught us of the gaps that exist in our judicial system and has given us the courage to get out on the streets to fucking fight back. she has reminded us what not helping someone in need can mean, and the difference it can make. she reminded us what it means to be human. so gather up sisters, for it’s time to voice ourselves, fucking loud and proud. brothers, we hope you show up, we are watching you. we are with you Susmita.
